The actress voices the "cool cat" Catherine in the kiddy flick,Abercrombie swimwear, but that wasn't what was making her grin. No, it was something much more important that was causing the 38-year-old actress and breast-cancer survivor beam so happily,G-sta, and that was showing off her baby bump to the world. She and fianc?? Martyn Lenoble of Porno for Pyros fame announced last week that they are expecting their first child, and judging by her expanding waistline, she is well along in her pregnancy.

Other members of the film cast mugged it up on the red carpet, as Paul Rodriguez and Michael Clarke Duncan joked around with a fire hydrant prop, Chris O'Donnell posed with some real-life pooches and Joe Pantoliano hammed it up with a scary-looking hairless cat. Jack McBrayer, Kiernan Shipka and James Marsden rounded out the happy cast on hand.

Los Angeles – Brilliant summer sun dappled the pack of humans, canines and felines that filled the red-carpet premiere of "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore" at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, July 25. But the brightest glow of the day came from Christina Applegate's big smile.

And that expanded stomach is causing a whole new world of concern for the usually chic actress, as she mentioned on Twitter just before heading out to the celebration, writing that she was, "About to get ready for the Cats and Dogs dealio. All is well except that I don't know how to dress this belly yet. So big black shirt it is."

George Clooney radiates cool on witness stand – NB

July 29th, 2010

He testified that photos that purported to show him with two of the defendants were doctored and signatures on documents also were forged.

The appearance of the star, who maintains a villa on nearby Lake Como but is rarely seen here in public, sent the normally staid courthouse into full celebrity tilt. Clooney had to push his way through a wall of cameras into the courtroom, saying “scusa, scusa,” — “Excuse me” in Italian — and warning “Don’t crush my lawyers.”

The 49-year-old actor wore a navy blue suit, crisp white shirt and red-spotted blue tie as he addressed the court through an interpreter, throwing in occasional words in Italian and apologizing for his lack of fluency.

The actor noted that just two versions of the photocopied signature were used.

Defense lawyers attempted to dig into the actor’s private life but were blocked by the judge. Clooney appeared irritated when the defense questioned him about who cares for his Harley Davidson motorcycles and his Italian home.

One lawyer asked if Clooney saw a lot of women or dated many Italian women since acquiring a residence in Italy nine years ago. The judge ruled the questions “irrelevant and not admissible.”

Clooney has a well-documented relationship with Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis.

Clooney testified that the case dated to 2006, when he received a letter from Rolex telling him to stop wearing one of their watches in public.

“I didn’t know what was going on,” said Clooney, who is a spokesman for Omega. He added that he realized that someone was using his image to sell Rolex watches.

Later, the actor and his employees noticed articles saying that he had put out a clothing line in Italy, which he said was not true. Clooney then hired Italian lawyers to resolve the situation.

After his 90-minute testimony, Judge Pietro Caccialanza thanked Clooney, wryly noting that the session “has lasted as long as a movie.”

Clooney was flanked by carabinieri military police as he left the courtroom.

“They are taking advantage of a lot of people,” Clooney told reporters as he left. “It seems the justice system is the only way to deal with it.”

Two others also charged with criminal fraud in the case are Vanja Goffi and Francesco Galdelli.

The signatures on the many documents he examined either were forged or photo copies of his signature, Clooney said, at one point acknowledging “this is my signature,NBA, but I didn’t sign it.”

Only one defendant — Vincenzo Cannalire — attended the trial.

Throngs of fans packed the tiny courtroom. The judge repeatedly told spectators to be quiet and tossed out one woman who snapped a photo of Clooney.

Examining other photos, Clooney explained why he was not the man in one particular picture.

MILAN – It’s no wonder the Italian businessmen claimed George Clooney was behind their fashion line — the actor knows how to wow an audience whether he’s on the red carpet or the witness stand.

The actor said he had never met Goffi but knew of her from stories on the Internet that claimed the two had a romantic relationship.

“Here, for instance. I don’t smoke and I don’t wear that watch,” Clooney said. Then after a pause he added, “I also don’t wear long jean shorts.”

“This is the first time I’ve ever seen him,” Clooney said, motioning to the defendant. Then with just a trace of irony, Clooney added, “So I’d like to say hello, nice to meet you.”

Maintaining his trademark aura of cool, Clooney delivered a few wisecracks Friday as he testified against three defendants accused of co-opting his name with the goal of launching a fashion line.

“My signature is very easy to get, as you can imagine, off the Internet, off eBay,” Clooney testified. “You would think if you were going to forge my signature, you would borrow several different versions of it.”

“Of course, I have seen her for the last three years in every single interview story nearly every day,” Clooney said with a hint of annoyance. The actor said the woman had even moved to the town in Italy where he spends about two months a year,Versace, but added: “I’ve never met her. I’ve never seen her.”

Clooney turned to greet him after recognizing the man from of the photos he was looking at.

Clooney said one photo purporting to show him with Goffi was instead doctored from a photo of Clooney and an ex-girlfriend in real life.

And so it's no surprise that original Broadway cast members Natascia Diaz, Luba Mason, Myrna Lee Gomila, Frankie Negron and Elan Luz Rivera will take part in the Public Theater's free staging of Paul Simon's 1997 musical The Capeman, which will begin performances at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park Aug. 14.

Musical flops never die in the theatre.

Not returning will be the two Broadway leads. Anthony Lee Medina will portray Young Sal Agrón (aka the Capeman) in the role that was originated by Latin singer Marc Anthony. The role of older Salvador Agrón, originally played by Ruben Blades, has not been cast.

Remember the all-male A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum I wrote about a few weeks back? Well, here's the distaff answer to it.

A new production of the profoundly male-dominated musical 1776, which will debut in August at Musical Theater Heritage in Kansas City, MO, will feature an all-female cast. Call them the Founding Mothers.

Sarah Crawford will direct the concert staging of 1776 that will run Aug. 12-29. She told Playbill.com that when she was a child, her family would watch the historic musical on the Fourth of July and "when anyone asked me what role I would want to play if I could play any role in any musical, I always immediately thought to myself, 'John Adams in 1776!'"

Crawford, along with MTH executive director George Harter and associate producer Chad Gerlt, conceived of the production as a way to showcase the talent of female actresses in the Kansas City area.

Tony Sheldon and Will Swenson in the North American company of Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical, which will play a limited engagement this fall in Toronto prior to arriving on Broadway in spring 2011 at a theatre to be announced. The show has the silliest name of any Broadway musical since the glory days of Victor Herbert operettas in the early 20th century. The new musical, written by Stephan Elliott and Allan Scott and directed by Simon Phillips, will begin its 12-week run at Toronto's The Princesss of Wales Theatre Oct. 12 with an official opening Oct. 26. Broadway dates will be announced at a later time.

Pop star John and Orwell — together. That's what makes the forthcoming project, announced this week,Juicy Couture belts, so enticing — its sheer improbability. Orwell's allegorical novel is about the Stalin era before the Second World War, and revolves around the corruption of the revolution by its leaders. Not exactly native terrain for the most famous male pop star in the world. Though Elton did get a bit political in Billy Elliot with all the Thatcher-bashing and union business and whatnot.

John will be teaming up with his Billy Elliot co-songwriter Lee Hall for the new work. It apparently took them some time to secure the rights. "It's taken about two years," said John. "We almost gave up…" Hall estimates a further two years of development time to bring it to the stage. Hall is working the lyrics first before handing them over to John to set to music. "I'm deep into it, writing songs for pigs and other four-legged friends," Hall said.

The play is set in 1870 and focuses on George Hayward and Safia Das, who each find themselves in the other's territory: he in the mountains of Central Asia, she in London. "The Great Game" is a historical term referring to the strategic rivalry between the Brits and the Russians for supremacy in Central Asia during much of the 19th century.

Mason, who originated the role of Mrs. Krzesinski in the troubled Broadway production of Capeman,Victorias Secret, will reprise her performance in that role. Diaz will assume the role of Esmerelda Agron (she originally played Yolanda).

Sheryl Kaller, a 2010 Tony nominee for her direction of Next Fall, will direct the production. Casting and theatre will be announced at a later date.

As previously reported, Tony Award nominee Diane Paulus, who first staged her Tony-winning revival of Hair as a concert presentation at the Delacorte prior to its Broadway return, will helm the musical that will run for three performances through Aug. 16 at 8 PM.

Elton John writing a musical based on George Orwell's masterpiece "Animal Farm"? It's the kind of announcement that makes a slow-news summer more interesting.

Producers Randall L. Wreghitt and Jana Robbins announced July 22 that they will bring D. Tucker Smith play The Great Game to Broadway in the 2011-2012 season.

Adapted from the film of the same name, Priscilla tells of three friends who hop aboard a battered old bus searching for love and friendship in the middle of the Australian outback. Priscilla had its world premiere in Sydney in October 2006 and has subsequently played Melbourne and New Zealand. The London production recently celebrated its first year in the West End at the Palace Theatre.
